Demands Hindu Law Reform Council
Bangladesh Hindu Law Reform Council yesterday demanded reforming the relevant Hindu laws to establish equal rights for both men and women of the religious community.
The demand came from a meeting held at Moni Singh-Farhad Smrity Trust Bhaban in the capital’s Purana Paltan.
Leaders of the council also demanded the government create an atmosphere of trust by ensuring security during Durga Puja and justice for attacks on minorities, said a press release.
They condemned and protested the death threats, attacks and cases their general secretary Pulak Ghatack had to endure.
Stating that Hindu women in this country are living in helpless and disrespectful situations, council members opined that reform of traditional Hindu laws is mandatory to improve the society and empower women.
The leaders demanded a stop to spreading abusive and offensive posters and leaflets against Hindu women, the release said.
Pulack Ghatack conducted the programme, while vice president of the organisation Suvash Saha presided over it.
